The Election System

There is a saying that spring will come. Tomorrow will be better than today, there will be better days. Now this is bullshit. Familiar bullshit we hear every 4 years, somehow always right before the elections. Sure, there will be better days. Better days once we learn to elect the right leaders.

In India right before the elections, there is a nationwide spread, a spread of bad choices. And we're left to decide the faith of our country by picking the "Best of the worst." A common thing I hear on a daily basis is "Live in the present", yes, do live in the present, but please consider the future. Apply this theory in your personal life, not as an experiment on the country. I strongly believe that picking a leader is like crossing a road, look to your left and right before making the move, or you'll get hit by a truck and die. We've all heard rags-to-riches stories, elections sound so much like that to me before the elections candidates are beggars and after they are billionaires, like magic. But kids, never forget where you came from.

In my country, elections are a joke. Votes are bought, and people are sold for a few thousand rupees. Overall, I think poverty is to blame. In India, the rich are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer. People vote for whichever candidate pays them the most; this is more commonly practised in the weaker sections of the country, which is ALOT of people. Hence, the elections are rigged and set according to the "donations" given to people.

But because of the rigged system, there is manipulation of the electoral process (ie.vote buying), criminalization of politics (ie. criminals as politicians), Black money(ie. illegal funds, favour for the rich), etc, which directly or indirectly have an impact on the economy. I personally think a country should be run by well-educated individuals who want the best for the country, eg. collectors, IAS officers and civil servants. Maybe in the future, once we have a more educated population change will fall upon us.

Sometimes, instead of picking a familiar or cheaper restaurant consider broadening your horizons.
